Interview Questions
PAST:

Lawrence Atienza Photography: In high school, did you plan on pursuing modeling or acting? Were you involved in the school play or fashion shows during high school? What sacrifices if any did you have to make in order for you to model or act during that time period?

Cait Thompson: I did one play in high school, “The Sound of Music”. I played a nun and the girl puppet in the whole “Lonely Goat Herd” skit. It was a great experience. Other than that I was always to afraid to be in drama club because I wasn’t really friends with those people- the dumb things that we think matter in high school ya know?! I also did a modeling scout convention- nothing ever really came of it, except a weekend get-a-way with my mom!

Lawrence Atienza Photography: Who were your idols in high school and/or college? What did you admire most about them? How did you see yourself in relation to them?

Cait Thompson: Meryl Streep and Tina Fey. I love how Meryl can take a character and just be 100% committed to it. She just transforms. And Tina Fey- I love her business mind-set and of course the comedy. She rocks!

Lawrence Atienza Photography: What resources did you refer to during your high school and/or college days for modeling and/or Acting? If you can list the websites or books that would be great.

Cait Thompson: Well, I’d say college was when I decided to get serious about acting. I took an acting class that focused on the actor’s voice- it was the most memorable class to date. I learned so much about myself during that time. We read an excellent book called “The Right to Speak” by Patsy Rodenburg. It really opened my eyes to how acting and the arts helps reach out to people. From then on I was hooked!

Lawrence Atienza Photography: What were your ambitions in Modeling or Acting in your high school days? Did you want to be an actor or model? What shows or events did you want to participate in those days?

Cait Thompson: I always liked the idea of being a model and an actor when I was younger, but I think I was always too afraid to admit it to people. I used to print of scenes online and make my friends act them out with me. I’d also hang up a white sheet in my bathroom (it had the best lighting) and set up a camera on a tri-pod and do my own photo shoots.

Lawrence Atienza Photography: What types of photographers have you worked with in the past? Fashion, Commercial etc..? What did you like most about the photographers you’ve worked with? What did you hate most about a certain photographer.

Cait Thompson: It’s funny how every photo shoot experience is different. Only recently have I been consistently doing shoots. I always like to get a chance to talk to the photog before shooting. It helps me get a sense of their energy and to create some chemistry. I think that is important for a great photo shoot. Sometimes I get annoyed if a photographer is always trying to pose me- I just feel like he doesn’t trust that I have my own great ideas as well.

PRESENT:

Lawrence Atienza Photography: What are you doing in modeling or acting now? Have you reached a few of your goals to date?

Cait Thompson: I set smaller goals to accomplish on my way to the bigger ones. You have to celebrate the small successes too! So, yes, I have reached a lot of goals. For one- I’m out here in LA! I have a great team of agents and a manager. I’m writing a sketch comedy show, a pilot, and a few other screenplays. I’m hosting a show at CBS Mobile and hopefully a few other shows in the works. I’m also doing a lot of comedy and improve which I love. So much opportunity here!

Lawrence Atienza Photography: What organizations/Agencies etc.. are you involved with now? If so, why do you feel it is important to join such an organization?

Cait Thompson: The first thing I did when I moved out here was join a group called “The Actor’s Network”. This is an incredible organization that focuses on the business end of acting and how to develop your talent into a career. My agents are Craig Wyckoff and Associates and Reign Agency, also Full Circle Management.

Lawrence Atienza Photography: What are you doing to make yourself more marketable in the industry?

Cait Thompson: Networking! That’s one of the best things I learned from my degree in marketing. Every day I’m thinking of what I need to do to get myself further in my career and then go out and do it! Build relationships.

Lawrence Atienza Photography: What resources do you use frequently to reach your goals?

Cait Thompson: Other people are the best resources. Learn from their successes and mistakes.

Lawrence Atienza Photography: Name one quality of a photographer you wish all photographers should have when working with you? Name one issue you’ve experienced with a photographer?

Cait Thompson: A sense of humor. It helps keep the shoot fun and energized. My only issue was the photog who kept posing me. Finally I just started doing my own poses and he loved them. It’s a collaborative effort.

FUTURE:

Lawrence Atienza Photography: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? How do you plan on getting there? Please list out the steps if possible.

Cait Thompson: I’d love to be starring in my own sitcom. Also writing my own show. I like a lot of aspects of Tina Fey’s career- it has so many different dimensions.

Lawrence Atienza Photography: Will you be showcased in any movies, commercials, or books in the next few months or years?

Cait Thompson: In my optimistic mind- YES!

Lawrence Atienza Photography: Where do you see the modeling or acting industry in a few years? Do you feel it will be as glamorous as it is today?

Cait Thompson: I think the entertainment industry will always be portrayed as glamorous. But it has changed through-out time so who knows what direction it will take.

Lawrence Atienza Photography: Do you have any advice to give to up-incoming actors/models entering the industry?

Cait Thompson: Stay focused and don’t give up! If you give up, then you’ll never make it- duh! ϑ

Lawrence Atienza Photography: From your experience with photographers, if you only had one thing to say to them what would it be?

Cait Thompson: Don’t forget it’s about making art and having fun!
